IPL is considered to be the biggest T20 league in today's date. Since the inception of this league, fans have been witnessing constant power-hitting, in which the batsmen hit boundaries continuously and fans love it. The true ability of any player in this tournament is measured by his ability to hit sixes. In IPL history, we have seen many big hitters who are known for their ability to hit sixes, including names like Brendon McCullum, Chris Gayle and Andre Russell, but do you know the batsmen who have hit the most sixes in IPL history?

  1. Chris Gayle (357 Sixes)


The top name in this list is former West Indies player and "Universe Boss" Chris Gayle, who has hit 357 sixes in his IPL career. Known for his explosive power and long hits, this West Indies opener has played for Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings in his IPL career.  He has terrorised bowlers of all opposition franchises with his long sixes. Gayle holds many IPL records, including the highest individual score (175*) and the fastest century (off 30 balls). He hit a total of 17 sixes in that match which is still a record today. In his IPL career spanning from 2009 to 2021, Gayle played 142 matches, scoring 4965 runs at an average of 39.72 and a strike rate of 148.96

Indian captain and Mumbai Indians veteran batsman Rohit Sharma is second on this list with 295 sixes. Rohit is a skilled stroke-maker who has the ability to send the ball across the boundary with ease. Rohit Sharma has played with Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians in his IPL career. His graceful but powerful batting style sets him apart from other batsmen.  Allowing him to generate immense power, he has scored 6856 runs in 260 IPL innings at an average of 29.80 and a strike rate of 131.79. This year too, his bat is making a lot of noise and if Rohit stays in form, it will be almost impossible for any team to beat Mumbai in the upcoming cricket matches of IPL 2025.

IPL's highest run-scorer and Royal Challengers Bangalore legendary batsman Virat Kohli is at number three with 285 sixes. Known for his consistency and ability to play long innings, Kohli has immense power and has improved his six-hitting skills a lot in the last few years. His ability to pick up the length quickly and his strong bottom hand gets him across the boundary regularly. In 261 IPL matches, Kohli has scored 8396 runs at an average of 39.61 and a strike rate of 132.49, including 8 centuries and 60 half-centuries.  He is also considered the greatest batsman in IPL history. The charismatic former captain of Chennai Super Kings MS Dhoni is at number four on this list with 252 sixes. Known for his "helicopter shot" and his ability to finish the game with long sixes, Dhoni has been a nightmare for bowlers in the death overs. He is still adept at hitting sixes. His calm nature and calculated aggression make him one of the most dangerous power-hitters in IPL history. In 264 IPL matches, Dhoni has scored 5243 runs at an average of 39.13 and a strike rate of 137.54.  Dhoni is currently struggling with his form and fitness but despite this, the fans are supporting him a lot in IPL 2025.

  1. AB de Villiers (251 Sixes)


Former South African captain AB de Villiers, also known as "Mr. 360" for his ability to hit shots all around the field. He is fifth on this list with 251 sixes. De Villiers has played for Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL history. De Villiers was very much liked by the Indian audience.
